Judgment On Portland Cement Zambia Announced, Dr. Rajan Mahtani Appeals To Higher Court
Portland
Cement Zambia is a noted cement factory in Zambia. The factory was
being contested by two parties for the past ten years, one of them
being notes industrialist Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Dr. Rajan Mahtani was
the owner of Portland Cement Zambia and during his leadership; the
factory grew to significant heights. During the successful leadership
under Dr. Mahtani, the factory production grew exponentially and also
become one of the biggest producers of cement factory in Zambia.
Apart from its production, the factory also became noted for it’s
higher than industry average wages and salaries. However, things
changed drastically after the factory was illegal taken by with the
help of goons. Since this illegal takeover, the factory productions
have gone down significantly and majority of the workers have left
the factory. Those who are still working have claimed they have not
been given wages for many months now. The factors assets are also
corroding and the factory cash box has been completely empties. It
seems that the people who took illegal control over the factory had
no intention on keeping the health of the factory.
During
the course of 10 years of the case, Dr. Rajan Mahtani presented
numerous evidences and documents to support his claim. Some of these
included signed shareholders agreement, financial exhibits and
investment reports as well as independent audit report conducted by
an independent auditor. Even after these strong evidences, the final
judgment was given against the claims of Dr. Mahtani.
It
is clear that the judgment was influenced by external forces. As
such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has now approached the ‘higher court of
appeal’ repealing for this case.
