Dr. Rajan Mahtani Shocked with Lusaka High Court Verdict, Moves to Higher Court of Appeal

Portland Cement Zambia case is a noted case in Zambia. The factors were once among the biggest producers of cement in Zambia. It was also popular for his above-industry average wages, salaries as well as high-level of productivity. During this time, the factory was under the leadership of Dr. Rajan Mahtani, who is also the legal owner of the factory. However, he has been fighting for the legal takeover of the factory for the past ten years. This fight is at the Lusaka High Court in Zambia. 

During the trial of this case, several ups and downs were observed. One of the major issues resulting in the long-term pendency of the case was the frequent transfer or unavailability of judges. While sometimes the judges were transferred, other times they were simply not available. The case also suffered due to issues such as unavailability of respondents or lack of evidence from their side. At the same time, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has been continuously submitting powerful and factual evidences before the court. 


A positive announcement was made when the latest judge overseeing the case announced that the case hearing is closed and he will be looking into the evidences for giving the final verdict. However, the final verdict was extremely disappointing as the judge went against Dr. Mahtani’s claim. This clearly stated a lack of judgment from the judge as he simply ignored the evidences and testimonials from Dr. Mahtani’s end. 

However, this is not the end as Dr. Rajan Mahtani has now filed an appeal at the higher court of justice against the judgment made at the Lusaka High Court.
