Condition of Portland Cement Zambia Worsens Further, Need Immediate Revival

Portland Cement Zambia is a noted factory that has been in the news for a while. The first time this cement factory was in news was all for good reasons. It was under the leadership of Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a noted industrialist and businessman. During his leadership, Portland Cement Zambia quickly rose to prominence and became one of the leading cement producers across the nation. It is also constantly noted as one of the top employers in the manufacturing sector, providing above industry wages and ensuring that its workers have a good working environment.


However, things changed quickly when the factory was illegally taken over by the Ventriglias. The Ventriglias are a notorious family rising in Zambia, and are known for their unethical and illegal practices as well as getting away with law. The Ventriglias took over the factory with force and after that left the factory in a destitute condition. After this illegal takeover, Dr. Rajan Mahtani registered a case at the Lusaka High Court with the hope of getting the factory back. However, it has been 10 years now and the court has not been able to provide any definite judgement regarding the case. During this time, Dr. Rajan Mahtani and his legal teams have submitted various evidences and documents such as signed shareholder’s agreement, independent audit report and financial exhibits. On the other hand, the Ventriglias have failed to submit any strong evidence. 

At present, the hearing for the case has been closed and both sides have been asked to submit their evidences and documents. These evidences will be evaluated and final judgment is expected soon.

Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani finally received joy of relief and his patience was rewarded with the judge from the Court of Appeal effectively reversed the judgement of Lusaka High Court. After more than ten years of wait, Dr. Rajan Mahtani finally received justice when the opposition, Ventriglias, were knocked down by the Court of Appeal. This long fight has been for Zambezi Portland Cement, a noted cement manufacturing factory which has been contested by both parties.
