Unhappy With The Judgement, Dr. Mahtani Takes The Case To Higher Court

The final verdict for the long-pending case of Portland Cement Zambia is finally out and it is not what expected. The judgment has shocked the real owner of the factory as well as numerous experts who have been following the case for years. The case of Portland Cement Zambia is decades old and has become one of the longest pending corporate cases across the nation. This case is also associated with one of the biggest industrialists in Zambia, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted businessman, philanthropist, and charity worker. He is also the owner of numerous successful establishments both across Zambia as well as outside the nation. Some of his national investments include Mahtani Group of Companies, Finance Bank Zambia and Finsbury Investments. He is also the legal owner of Portland Cement Zambia but has been trying to prove the same to numerous judges at the Lusaka High Court where the case has remained pending for a long time.


During this long trial, numerous evidence and testimonials were submitted by both parties to prove their respective claims. However, the evidence and testimonials submitted by Dr. Rajan Mahtani were clear and factual, establishing the fact that he is the owner. Some of these documents were signed shareholder’s agreement, financial exhibits and an independent report which clearly states that Dr. Mahtani is the sole joint venture partner of the factory which majority shareholdings.
Despite this strong evidence, the final judgment was announced against Dr. Mahtani’s claims. However, Dr. Rajan Mahtani is not the one to become dejected with false judgment and now has appealed to the higher court of Zambia against this misdirected judgment.

After more than ten years of wait, Dr. Rajan Mahtani finally received justice when the opposition, Ventriglias, were knocked down by the Court of Appeal. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani finally received joy of relief and his patience was rewarded with the judge from the Court of Appeal effectively reversed the judgement of Lusaka High Court. This historic announcement was given on 31 st January 2019 during the morning hours of the court session. This judgement was for Portland Cement Zambia, a noted cement-manufacturing factory in Zambia which has been begging for justice from the government of Zambia for the past ten years. The case was first registered at the Lusaka High Court by Dr. Rajan Mahtani himself, claiming that the factory was illegally taken away from him.
